Bryton Reim, a junior at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo, is determined to win.

Throughout elementary and middle school, beating competitors in sports had come easily. Back then, Reim had been among his schools' top student athletes, receiving trophies for cross-country, soccer and wrestling.

But high school's different. Competition is no longer just between the neighborhood kids. Opponents show increased strength as they race to compete in state championships.

She quit her job as a UW fundraiser, packed up and moved with her infant son to Auburn, Ala., to work full time with a throws coach there.

Associated Press - MARYSVILLE, Wash. - Newly graduated from Marysville-Pilchuck High School, Haley Nemra just quit her two-year job at Nic and Tony's Pizzeria. She was the slender, dark-haired teenager behind the counter with loads of personality. She made pizzas, calzones, submarine sandwiches and espresso drinks. She made everyone smile.

As if U.S. track and field didn't have enough trouble connecting with the average sports fan, now there is loose talk about changing the selection process for the Olympic team.
