The 22-year-old from Portland ran in the lead pack with the world's top distance runners for the first half of the men's 10,000 meters before finishing 13th in a field of 35.

Dave Caldwell, who is heading into his fifth season with the Penguins, has welcomed former Heritage High School coach Ryan Hovde as a co-head coach. The Penguins met Friday morning for their first practice, and both coaches are excited about the concept.

Hermiston's Puzey wins Aquaman Duathlon

Puzey finished the two-mile run, half-mile swim and three-mile run in 38 minutes and 4 seconds for the men's championship.

Arnie Young coached track over five decades in Renton

(By Amy Martinez, Seattle Times staff reporter) Arnold "Arnie" Young, described as the "ultimate coach," died of cancer at age 73.

Arnold "Arnie" Young had been diagnosed with cancer when, several years ago, he attended a high-school track meet named after him in Renton. A student-athlete from Lindbergh High School asked Mr. Young, his former coach, to autograph a running shoe and promised: "I'm going to win for you."

Justin Young of Colo. put his training regime to the test, winning in 1 hour, 5 minutes and 46 seconds. Defending women's champion, Hiromi Ominami , of Japan duplicated her 2007 victory finishing in 1:12:47, two seconds faster than her 2007 effort. Both earned $1500 for their victories with Ominami pocketing a $500 bonus for being a past champion.
